Join Outdoor Chattanooga for a guided and equipped Kayak Tour at the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge.
The Hiwassee Refuge is located at the confluence of the Tennessee and Hiwassee Rivers about one hour north of Chattanooga near the town of Birchwood.
The group will kayak around the perimeter of the 400-acre Hiwassee Island with Outdoor Chattanooga’s experienced guides. The wildlife refuge area attracts a variety of birds due to its combination of cultivated, forested and interior wetlands. The area is popular in the winter for the Sandhill Crane migration. Summer wildlife sightings are likely to include Bald Eagles, migrant shorebirds, herons as well as seasonal wildflower blooms along the shorelines.
All equipment and transportation from Chattanooga are included in the price. We use recreational and touring kayaks which fit most body types (kayak weight limit is 230lbs). Previous kayak experience is helpful, but not necessary to participate. Appropriate for ages 14 and up when accompanied by a participating adult.
