Pete in the Park

December 19, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm EST

Pete in the Park is a winter celebration with the Highland Park Neighborhood Association and Public Art Chattanooga in Tatum Park on Thursday, December 19 from 5:30 – 6:30PM.

Join us for the unveiling of “RE:Pete” by artist Randy Walker, a sculptural tribute to Pete the peacock, and the spirit of the Highland Park Community. Share a story about Pete and warm up with a hot drink and take a prop for a photo op with the new colorful artwork in Tatum Park. This event is free to attend.

Since September 2018, Walker has worked with the Highland Park community through Public Art Chattanooga’s Art in Neighborhoods program, which empowers residents to drive the vision for public art projects in their neighborhood, Walker created “RE:Pete”, inspired by the strong connections that Highland Park residents share. This spirit of connection is nowhere more joyfully embodied than by Pete, an itinerant peacock who made Highland Park his home and often roamed the neighborhood making unexpected appearances.Sightings of him, posted online and shared by residents, transcend age, politics, and the day-to-day matters of life. “RE:Pete” celebrates color, pattern, and connection by reinterpreting elements of a peacock into a work of interactive art, which provides a focal point for Tatum Park.

Art in Neighborhoods is made possible through generous support from the City of Chattanooga, Benwood Foundation and Footprint Foundation.
