Fundamentals of Mountain Biking

Mountain biking is a fun way to exercise and connect with nature. If you’re curious about leaving the asphalt behind and gearing up for the trails, this Intro to Mountain Biking Fundamentals course is designed for you! Learn the fundamentals of mountain biking from our experienced instructors through skills demonstration and practice in a controlled setting. Our instructors teach in a format that’s structured to your pace and individual learning style.
The course will cover the following, in a fun and relaxed open area:
- Safety check and bike fit
- Body positions and bike handling for off-road terrain
- Shifting, pedal positions, and braking
- Maneuvering techniques and drills
- Climbing and descending
- Single-track riding techniques
You don’t have to have prior mountain biking experience to participate, but you must be able to ride a bike confidently. This class and we highly recommend taking the Fundamentals Class before going on a Guided Trail Ride. See the schedule below. Don’t have a mountain bike? No problem. We have mountain bikes for use at no additional charge so you can decide if this sport is for you before making a big investment. Appropriate for ages 10+. Cost: $10 per person. Mountain bikes, helmets, and instruction provided. Online Reservations required in advance. Fundamentals Courses meet at Greenway Farms Park, Trail Ride locations vary. Fall 2021 Intro to Mountain Biking Courses:
Fundamentals: Sept. 17, . 8, 15 and 22 | 5-7 PM
These classes are held at Greenway Farm in a controlled open environment, field.
Guided Trail Ride: Oct. 10 and 24 | 9:30-11:30 AM
These classes are held on single track trails that are considered beginner level but do have elevation gain and loss, tight turns, rocks and roots.

This includes proper disinfection of all equipment and gear used for programs and activities before/after each use, enforcing physical distancing during activities, as well as personal responsibility in the form of wearing face-coverings and frequent hand-washing are expected.

Anyone that shows signs or symptoms associated with COVID-19 will be excluded from our activities and asked to quarantine themselves. This includes our instructors. Physical Distancing: We ask that everyone practice physical distancing of at least 6 ft between others not in your own household. Please understand that the nature of our activities doesn’t allow that to occur 100% of the time. We will be in the great outdoors, with fresh air and bright sunshine and we have implemented strategies to reduce exposure and transmission. We promise to do our best to provide the safest environment.
Check-In: Please wear a face-covering during check-in and the safety briefing.
Equipment Care: Please limit contact with the equipment you are not personally using. Our staff have put extra cleaning procedures in place and will instruct you on proper adjustments for sizing from a distance.
